Alghero Jeep Safari

Claudio met us on the quayside from a cruise ship, we had explained that we wanted to get away from the usual tourist spots and see the "real Sardinia" and have a bit of a walk. He was very knowledgable and took us to some lovely out of the way places. We had...

“I'm sure you will have a fabulous time with him, he was so knowledgeable for someone as young as he; his love for his homeland was most impressive. Have a wonderful cruise! Marian”

Guided Hike with Sardinian Discovery

An excursion in the mountains, in a lunar landscape, in the natural habitats of moufflons

Our excursion in moufflon territory starts with an easy walk along a forest rangers’ trail, but gets tougher in the final stretch as we reach the area where the majority of moufflons live.

We set off from an altitude of 1000 meters:  a cool start in the summer; a snowy and evocative landscape in the winter.

During the excursion we’ll see moufflons, ravens and eagles and sometimes even vultures in the distance.
Among the most interesting stops are:  Monte Entu, to view the Gulf of Oristano, the Sinis Peninsula and possibly the east coast of Sardinia; our lunch break near a fresh water spring in a oak forest; an abandoned  feeding ground for vultures.

On the way back we can gather chestnuts and the fruits of the strawberry tree (corbezzoli); we’ll also have a chance to see many of the moufflons that live in this area.

Trip length: 13 km
Walking time: 3½ hours
Maximum altitude: 1030 metres
Total ascent: 426 metres
Route type: dirt road - trail
Level of difficulty: moderate
More info: long trousers and trekking boots required
Highlights: mouflons, volcanic area
