BACKPACKING (TREKKING)

SardinianDiscovery.com organizes many different trekking trips: e.g. in Gallura, Barbagia and Ogliastra etc. and our latest tour is called

“TOWER TREKKING IN THE RIVIERA DEL CORALLO”.

It's a 3-4 day trek along the coast between Capo Argentiera and Alghero town. You walk along the coast between the headlands and the stunning inlets. During the route, which follows the Old Town walls, we come across 15 towers, some of which are actually inside the town. The towers were built during the Catalan and Spanish domination. The trekking doesn't present any particular difficulties, except for some passes without a definitive path amidst the Mediterranean scrub. However, you shouldn't let the low altitude and the fact that we are not climbing high up mislead you, as it is still a 3-4 day trek. You therefore need to be physically fit as there is are a lot of actual walking time. During the trek we can also make a couple of diversions to:

Lago di Baratz (the only natural lake in Sardinia where there are herons and different kinds of acquatic birds and freshwater turtles);

and the Prigionette natural reserve (where there are fallow-deer, white donkeys from Asinara, horses, wild boar and griffin vultures).

During the trek along the Riviera del Corallo you can have a break on the beautiful beaches and during the warm weather you can have a refreshing swim. Some of the most well-known stops during the trek are: Capo Caccia (the symbol of Alghero's coastline), la baia di Porto Conte, Punta Giglio and the dunes at Porto Ferro.

We can sleep in a sleeping-bag as we can sleep in 4-star hotel !

Altitude: 361 metres

Ascent : m. 361

Daily walking time: from 5 hours depending on the group.

Grade: moderate.

Additional Information: long pants necessary.

Torre della Pegna and Punta Cristallo.
