Alghero: a trip up Monte Doglia.
A round trip in the district of Monte Doglia. Although we don ' t actually reach the summit, as access is prohibited due to the presence of a military air base, we do cross the surrounding hills, from Monte Vaccargiu where there ' s a fire services lookout and from where you can enjoy a fantastic view of Capo Marargiu, all the way to the gulf of Porto Torres taking in Alghero, Fertilia, Calik Lake, Olmedo and Sassari. Next we get to one of the most beautiful panoramic sites on the whole of the coast, from where you get one of the best views of the bay of Porto Conte, a spot where several professional photographers have taken photos for guidebooks, tourist magazines and postcards. Then, passing close to Monte Palmavera, we get to the Palmavera Nuragic complex. The trip isn ' t difficult but the four and a half hour walk itself may be tiring during the hottest days of summer when there ' s no wind. On the return journey we can stop for a break on the beach.
Altitude: approximate 300 metres
Actual walking time: 4½ hours
