Alghero: a trip to Punta Giglio.
Punta Giglio is the headland which closes off the Bay of Porte Conte to the east. It ' s an unspoilt site with only two access routes, one on foot and the other by offroad vehicles. It is in the State Forest which will probably become the most protected place within the area of the Natural Regional Park of Porte Conte. The trip begins at Capo Galera and we do a round trip ending up back at Capo Galera. At Punta Giglio there is one of the largest Second World War military settlements near to Alghero, with postings for the armaments, bunkers, tunnels and barracks. From here you can enjoy a view of the entire bay of Porte Conte and the headland of Capo Caccia from a unique position. A good part of the walk is inside the forest and so the path is easily passable even in the heat of summer. On the way back you can take a break to have a swim.
Altitude: 110 metres
Actual walking time : 3 hours
